LARRY A. FIELDS
FOUNDING PARTNER (1947-2018)

Larry A. Fields was a co-founding partner of Fett Law, also known as Fett & Fields, P.C. Larry was a Vietnam veteran, attaining the rank of Sergeant. He later became a police officer for the City of Taylor, eventually becoming the Public Safety Director. 

Larry was a former client of James Fett, which prompted him to go to law school. He became an attorney and joined James in practice, focusing primarily on employment law. 

Larry passed away in 2018 due to complications related to exposure to agent orange while in Vietnam. He is survived by his wife Kim and three children. Larry is sorely missed by all those who knew him for his loyalty, frankness, and jovial personality. 

Larry held various management positions in both Municipal and County Government. He was a former police officer, Executive Assistant to The Mayor, Special Projects Manager (overseeing construction of a city golf course and new police station), and Director of Public Safety for the City of Taylor. He held various management positions within Wayne County, including at the Juvenile Detention Center, and designed and administered promotional examinations for various county departments while assigned to the personnel department. He did extensive employee training in topics ranging from sexual harassment to non-physical crisis intervention.

Larry held positions as Chairman of the Taylor Fire and Police Retirement Board, President of The Fraternal Order of Police (Lodge 123), President of The Taylor Police Officer’s Association and District 4 Labor Director for the Fraternal Order of Police Labor Council. He negotiated labor contracts “from both sides of the table”.

Larry was an Adjunct Professor of Criminal Justice at the University of Detroit where he taught classes in Police Administration, Criminal Investigation, Juvenile Law, Labor Relations and Juvenile Delinquency.

Larry was Taylor’s first Officer of the Year in 1978. He coached youth baseball, basketball and soccer.

MILITARY: Larry served in the United States Air Force for 4 years. Larry is an honorably discharged Vietnam Veteran. He attained the rank of Sergeant. He is a life member in the V.F.W. He served at duty stations in North Dakota, Texas and Europe, as well as the Republic of South Vietnam.
